Hongyan Chen

Hongyan Chen is an Associate Professor at the Institute of International and Comparative Education and Director of the Intercultural Education and Communication Research Center at the East China Normal University, China. Her research interests include urban education, ritual in school, social and emotional learning, the performance of body in school field, and qualitative approach to video-picture interpretation. She has recently accomplished a national project on the Modernization of Education in China, in which she adopted interactional ritual theory to analyze the complex interplay of school and urban city. In addition, she has been involved in various educational research projects in future schools, internationalization of elementary education in China, and social and emotional education. Her recent publication themes mainly focus on future education, ritual performance in school, and picture-video interpretation in educational ethnography.
