"Embracing the 'Weird': The Technology Culturalist Approach as a Liminal Space for Fostering Posthumanist Futures"
This paper introduces "weird research" and the application of the
'Technology Culturalist' approach as a liminal space that disrupts disciplinary conventions and boldly delves into alternative methods and
tools. Grounded in Ferrando's Philosophical Posthumanism and
acknowledging technology as a trait of being human, it unsettles the
usual narrative on technology and the possible Futures. Challenging
the tendency to view humans and technology as separate entities in
futuristic visions. Embracing the Weird Research Manifesto, Technology Culturalists promote a critical deconstruction of entrenched beliefs, instigating shifts in the possible futures by asking questions about the impact of technology on the possible futures. In line with Philosophical
Posthumanism, acknowledges human and non-human entities' entangled agency within techno-cultural ecosystems to conceive of new and radical futures within these systems. Embracing the "weird" means operating in the liminal spaces of research areas, tackling difficult and potentially subversive questions and exposing environmentally mindful and inclusive futures.
Embodying the Technology Culturalist approach as a liminal space,
weird research disrupts conventional futures studies and underscores the potential of weird research. To reshape the narratives in foresight
and futures studies, transitioning from anthropocentric narratives towards a Philosophical Posthumanism vision of the future.
